What does a data processing agreement with Contabo cover?
A data processing agreement is a contract between Contabo and its customer that governs the processing of personal data by Contabo on behalf of its customer, in accordance with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person; an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.
- Processing means any operation or set of operations which is performed on personal data or on sets of personal data, whether or not by automated means, such as collection, recording, organisation, structuring, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, alignment or combination, restriction, erasure or destruction.
How can I create a data processing agreement?
- Log in to the Customer Control Panel.
- In the left-hand navigation menu, click on DPA, then select DPA from the submenu.
- On the DPA page, click the "Create new Data Processing Agreement" button.
- A dialog will open showing your current customer details (Customer Number, First name, Last name, Address, Country). Review the information carefully. If any details are incorrect, they can only be updated via "Customer Details". Once you are satisfied, click "Confirm & Continue".
- In the Select Service step, select the services for which you wish to create the Data Processing Agreement by checking the box next to each service. You can search by service name, IP address, or display name. Once you have made your selection, click "Continue".
- In the Data Protection Officer step, you have the option to include the contact details of a data protection officer in the agreement. This is optional. If you wish to include these details, check the box labelled "Yes, I want to include the contact details of my data protection officer in the Data Processing Agreement (optional)" and fill in the required fields: Email Address, First name, Last name, Street, Zip code, City, Country, and optionally Telephone. Once done, click "Continue".
- In the Type of Data step, specify the categories of data that you and your authorized users store on the service. Multiple selections are possible. Available categories include (among others): Address Data, Authentication Data, Bank Details, Billing Data, Communication Data, Contract Data, E-Mails, Employee Data, Financial Data, Image Files, Offer Data, Order Data, Password Data, Payment Data, Personnel Data, Profile Data, Program Code, Transaction Data, Usage Data, and Video Files. Click "Continue" once you have made your selections.
- In the Affected Persons step, specify the categories of data subjects whose data is being processed. Multiple selections are possible. Available categories include (among others): Applicants, Business Partners, Customers, Employees, Former Employees, Members, Service Providers, Subscribers, Suppliers, Users, and Witnesses. Once your selections are complete, click "Continue and Create Preview".
- In the Preview step, you can view the generated PDF of the Data Processing Agreement before concluding it. Review the document carefully. When you are satisfied, check the confirmation checkbox stating that all information is correct and that you agree to the contents of the agreement. Then click "Conclude Data Processing Agreement".
The Data Processing Agreement will then be created and will be available for review in the DPA section of the Customer Panel.

You can create a data processing agreement for any of the following Contabo services: Webspace Package, FTP Storage, VPS, VDS, Dedicated Server, Object Storage, and Colocation.
Is it mandatory to create a data processing agreement?
