What is Private Networking?

Private Networking is an optional extension to the functionality of Contabo’s Virtual Private Servers (VPS) and Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS) that allows the activated instances in the same Contabo location to communicate within a private network. The maximum network size is /22, which provides a maximum of 1024 addresses, and a server can be added to several private networks at the same time. 

The Private Networking feature is available to servers in all regions, but private networks can only be created in one region at a time. Only instances in the same data center can be added to a private network.

Instances within the same private network are assigned private IP addresses and communication between them is restricted to that private network.

How can I buy the Private Networking feature for a new Contabo server?

1. Go to the Contabo website.
2. Select the VPS or VDS you would like to buy.
3. You should be taken to the "Configure your VPS/VDS" page. Configure your VPS/VDS as you would like.
4. You should see a section called "Networking". Set the "Private Networking" dropdown to "Private Networking Enabled".
5. Complete the purchase of your new Contabo server. 

How Can I buy the Private Networking feature for an existing VPS or VDS?

1. Log in to the Contabo Control Panel.
   
2. Click on "Private Networking" from the blue "control panel" section on the left hand side of the page.
3. Click on the "Create new Private Network" button.
4. Select the region from the "Region" dropdown list.
5. Select the server you would like to purchase the Private Networking feature for.
6. Click the "Continue" button.
7. You will be shown how much you will have to pay monthly for the Private Networking feature. Once you're satisfied click the "Order and Pay to continue".

How do I get access to the Private Networking features?

After purchasing the Private Networking add-on for a Contabo instance, the features are directly available in the Contabo Control Panel. Just click on "Private Networking" from the blue "control panel" section on the left hand side of the page and you should be able to set up your Private Network.
